Philip Holden (Director)

Nick Blessley (Chris)

Philip has been involved in the theatre ever since he was born. His grandmother and both of his parents were involved in amateur theatre for much of their lives.

He first came to Edinburgh whilst at university and subsequently billed himself as “Rory Bremner's worst ever straight man”. He has written and directed plays and performed in operetta, community opera, stage plays, in the open air and on TV. He writes and voices corporate films and is a published author. Most recently he stopped buying books and bought a bookshop instead.

He has been with the Oast Theatre for eight years most recently directing Daniel O'Brien's adaptation of ‘Three Men in a Boat’.

His children are taking theatre even more seriously...when they're not running the bookshop.

Nick has nearly 50 years of acting experience, including Greek tragedy, Shakespeare, pantomime, musicals, modern drama, and farce.  He also directs and writes, and has done voice overs for TV adverts.  This is his 5th appearance with the Oast Theatre, which he joined in 2013.  He has been an enthusiastic Fringe-goer for many years, but this is the first time he has performed here.

Philip Tucker-Bell (Stage Manager)

Philip only discovered theatre in the last 8 years.  He has appeared on stage in 4 roles, each a smaller part than the last - until finally becoming a stage manager.  He is much happier backstage building sets which he does for every Oast Theatre production (as part of their Playgroup - retired people with power tools) and also stage managing a variety of shows including ‘Servant to two Masters’ and Panto.

The Oast Theatre

What was once a simple 19th century Kentish oast house, in use until 1966, became the Oast Theatre in 1974 and home to one of the most prolific theatre and arts clubs in the county, if not the UK. There are ten major public productions a year, together with three Youth Theatre productions and one from our junior group, the Hoppers.  Our thriving Art Group has its own studio in one of the roundels and holds an annual exhibition. The Tonbridge Theatre & Arts Club is a registered charity, owned and managed by its members on a volunteer basis, with its objectives being the fostering of theatre and the arts.
